About
Kunel’s work examines how meaning accumulates around objects, systems, and images. Drawing from the visual languages of technology, branding, architecture, and everyday life, he recontextualises familiar forms as vessels for memory, speculation, and cultural projection.

His practice often begins with systems designed for utility, from signage and interfaces to typography and hardware, and explores what emerges when their original purpose is suspended. Alongside his studio practice, he has built a broader creative language that connects contemporary art, branding, and cultural production.

Kunel Gaur

Kunel Gaur is a multidisciplinary artist and founder whose practice moves across art, design, and culture. His work explores the emotional and symbolic life of objects, systems, and materials, often blurring the line between function and presence.

Process

Kunel Gaur is a multidisciplinary artist and creative director working across objects, images, systems, and cultural memory. His practice moves between physical and post-physical forms, using industrial materials, functional graphics, typography, hardware, light, code, and found visual language to examine how objects behave after their original purpose begins to dissolve.

His work often sits in the space between the engineered and the emotional. An object loses its function and gains a presence. A consumer object becomes evidence. A character becomes a signal. Through this post-human lens, he looks at the afterlife of design, where the things built for use begin to carry presence, mythology, and memory.

Alongside his studio practice, Kunel is the co-founder of Animal, one of India’s most influential independent creative agencies, where he has shaped future-facing projects for brands, technology platforms, cultural institutions, and global collaborators. He is also the founder of Indianama, a non-profit platform that brings together artists and designers to reimagine India through collective visual storytelling.

His work extends into augmented reality, NFTs, digital objects, product experiments, apparel, public art, exhibitions, and collaborations with brands including Nike, Adidas Originals, Ather, Dell, Monotype, Casetify, Absolut, Budweiser, and Almost Gods. Across formats, the interest remains the same: how images, objects, interfaces, and systems accumulate meaning over time.

Kunel has spoken about the evolving Indian visual language through his TEDx talk, Defining a New Indian Aesthetic. His wider practice continues to move between art, design, technology, and culture, building a world where the familiar is reconstructed into something slightly displaced, slightly future, and already remembered.
