Kunel’s work examines how meaning accumulates around objects, systems, and images. Drawing from the visual languages of technology, branding, architecture, and everyday life, he recontextualises familiar forms as vessels for memory, speculation, and cultural projection.

His practice often begins with systems designed for utility, from signage and interfaces to typography and hardware, and explores what emerges when their original purpose is suspended. Alongside his studio practice, he has built a broader creative language that connects contemporary art, branding, and cultural production.

Kunel Gaur

Kunel Gaur is a multidisciplinary artist and founder whose practice moves across art, design, and culture. His work explores the emotional and symbolic life of objects, systems, and materials, often blurring the line between function and presence.

Post Physical is an ongoing collection of digital works exploring the spaces where information, technology, and culture intersect. Existing across virtual platforms, blockchain networks, augmented realities, and digital environments, these projects investigate how objects, symbols, and systems evolve once detached from the physical world. Together, they form a parallel practice concerned with the afterlife of images, the architecture of information, and the emergence of new forms of cultural presence.

Kollur 2147

2023

Kollur 2147 was a digital art initiative curated by Kunel that brought together 28 artists to reimagine the legacy of the Koh i Noor through the lens of the future. Set 200 years after India’s independence, the project invited artists to speculate on alternative realities, cultural trajectories, and possible futures inspired by one of the most contested objects in history.

Released as a collection of digital artworks and NFTs, the project used the diamond not as an artifact of the past, but as a framework for exploring questions of identity, memory, loss, ownership, and imagination.

KUMI

Ongoing

KUMI is an ongoing character based project that draws inspiration from Japanese visual culture, early internet aesthetics, and the techno optimism of the Y2K era. Existing across digital artworks, NFTs, physical objects, and installations, the project explores how fictional characters can function as vessels for memory, nostalgia, and cultural storytelling.

Through a visual language informed by consumer electronics, video games, music culture, packaging systems, and collectible objects, KUMI inhabits a world where graphic design, technology, and identity converge. The resulting works examine the emotional afterlife of the artifacts, interfaces, and cultural signals that shaped a generation.

Systems

2022

Systems is a collection of digital works that extends an exhibition of the same name into a speculative virtual realm. Drawing from transparent materials, illuminated structures, industrial markings, and functional graphic systems, the works reimagine familiar objects as self contained environments of information and light. Existing between sculpture, interface, and artifact, the collection explores how systems shape the way we navigate contemporary life.

By translating physical works into digital space, the project investigates what happens when function is stripped away, leaving only the visual language, symbolism, and cultural residue of the systems themselves.

Generic Brands

2022

Generic Brands was a series of animated NFTs developed alongside the physical artworks. Familiar products are stripped back to their most essential forms and reimagined as moving digital objects, exploring how recognition survives beyond logos, colour, and marketing.

The works extend an ongoing investigation into consumer culture, collective memory, and the visual systems that define contemporary life.
